"I Am"

I found this poem recently in a folder of things I thought were worth saving. I wrote it my freshman year for an english 101 assignment. I don't even remember the specifics of the assignment...but sometimes I forget that I can actually write when I want to. Apparently my teacher liked it, because I got an awesome grade. It's called, "I Am."

I am courageous and honest. I am lost.
I am noble and unselfish. I am fortunate. I am moved.
The conflict of the deepest of my soul,
I am sorry I hurt you.
There are things I must tell you - I was frightened.
I am asking for an apology.
I look at your heart, not your hands.
I shall try to do what is right and speak what is true,
To aspire to the highest with one part of myself.
Deep down the fear, the pain and suffering, they are a secret.
But it must not alter the course that is right.
Kindness and love, they are a secret.
Kindness and love can pay for pain and suffering.
There is no life without suffering.
In my suffering I can believe.
Hope and encouragement, comfort and strength,
Aspiration is thus made easy.
Willing and obedient, I shall try to do what is right and speak what is true.
I am sorry my friend.
I am courageous and honest.
I am lost.
I am noble and unselfish. I am fortunate. I am moved.
I am.
